Address & Mortality Results

This article will discuss how to understand Address & Mortality results with examples, and is split into the four sections:

Overall Results

For the Address & Mortality check, you will be presented with one of two overall results:

ResultDescription
PASS (Green)We have been able to confirm that the individual resides in the address in question using sources from the UK Credit Database and/or UK Electoral Roll. We have also been able to confirm that the individual has not been flagged on the UK Deceased Persons database.
REFER (Orange)We have been unable to confirm that the individual resides in the address in question and/or they have been flagged as deceased on the UK Deceased Persons database. For some of our journeys, we will automatically obtain a proof of address document as part of the journey if the individual refers on the check. In these cases, the proof of address document will appear as a 'supporting document' and will need manually reviewing by yourselves.

Mortality Results

The mortality check will use the individuals first & last name and address to compare against the UK Deceased Persons database. If the individual has been recorded as deceased with this information, this will then be flagged to you under the 'UK Mortality tab' as can be seen below. In these cases, we recommend escalating this to your manager/compliance officer/MLRO to follow your organisations internal policies.

If the individual has not been recorded as deceased with this information, this will be presented to you as below.

Address Results

Residential address results will appear under the 'UK Credit Bureau (Advanced)' tab. You will be presented with a list of Credit Database and Electoral Register sources indicating if they have matched/not matched. The sources will be coloured as below:

  • Green means the source has matched;
  • Red means the sources has not been matched for the individual;
  • Orange means either no information could be found, or there is extra information you should be altered too;
  • Grey means the source has not found any data to run against.

To pass the address check, an individuals results need to match the pass parameter criteria. This is typically set so an individual's name and date of birth has to match against the residential address on at least one source of data from either the Electoral Roll or Credit Database. To learn more about the different pass parameters we offer for address checks, please click here.

Examples

Examples of some outcomes are discussed below:

Example 1

The below sources indicate that the address is a real address '(Electoral Register) Address valid/matched' but there are no records returned from the Credit Database linking the individual to the address '(Credit Database) No records returned from supplier, unable to perform matching' and the name does not match the persons registered at the address from the Electoral Register '(Electoral Register) Forename/Surname invalid/did not match'.

Example 2

The below sources indicate that the individuals surname and date of birth does match against the Electoral Register and Credit Database but there is a 'partial forename' match which has caused an overall refer.

This could mean that the individual has not provided their full legal name when completing the check. For example if only 'Jon' was provided, when they actually registered as 'Jonathan' to the sources.

It could also mean that they have provided extra names as their first name, for example if they are registered as 'Anne' on the Electoral Register but they entered their middle name with their first name such as 'Anne Marie' when completing the Credas check or vice versa.

You can check what name the individual entered when completing their check at the top of the results page, as can be seen below.

Example 3

The below sources indicate that there are no records found on either the Credit Database or Electoral Register against the name or DOB against that address and therefore we are unable to confirm the individual resides there.

Example 4

The below sources indicate that the individual is not currently registered on the Electoral Register at the address in question, and that they are residing else where. The Credit Database also could not confirm the address in question matches with the individual.

Example 5

The below sources indicate that the individual's first name, last name and date of birth have been able to match against the address in question which has led to an overall pass result.

What to do if the result refers?

If the check appears as a refer then it is down to your organisations own internal policies for what you should do next. We recommend speaking to your manager/compliance officer/MLRO if you are unsure. You can also implement any of the below options as well depending on your organisations internal compliance policies:

More due diligence needed: You will need to complete more due diligence to confirm the individual's residential address such as obtaining a proof of address document.  For some of our journeys, we will automatically obtain a proof of address document as part of the journey if the individual refers on the check. In these cases, the proof of address document will appear as a 'supporting document' and will need manually reviewing by yourselves.

Overriding the result:  If you are satisfied with the individuals Address & Mortality, using your organisations internal policies, you are able to update the status of the check to a pass. You can do this by clicking the 'Refer' button in the top right hand corner as can be seen below. Please note this is permission based, so if you do not have the ability to override the result, please speak to your manager/admin user. When updating a result, you will always be required to write a comment. This comment will appear in the portal within the 'notes' tab and on the PDF for audit trail purposes.

Re-running the check: When Address & Mortality checks are run as part of journey, they will run against the name, date of birth and address entered by the individual as part of their journey. You will be presented with the information they entered at the top of the result as can be seen below. If you can see they may have entered some information incorrectly such as providing a shortened version of their name, you can manually re-run the check with updated information if you wish. To re-run the Address & Mortality check with updated information, please review the guidance here.

Adding Proof of Address documents to an individuals profile: If you have obtained documentation relevant to the individual, such as proof of address documents. You can add these to their profile on Credas, by uploading the documents as evidence (unlimited amount of documents you can upload) or as a supporting document. Please note - Credas does not verify non-biometric documents, this is to just an option to keep all documentation relevant to the individual together if you wish. These added documents can also be downloaded into the individuals PDF.
